Wilkins's Joins Brodhead Watershed Association

Henryville - Pictured above is Rob Sedwin, President of the Brodhead Watershed Association (R) and Thomas R. Wilkins, CEO of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Wilkins & Associates (L) who along with his wife, Christine Scrofano-Wilkins, joined the Brodhead Watershed Association as Corporate Members.

Sedwin is President of the BWA Board of Directors. All Board members of BWA live throughout the watershed. The Board is made up of 27 volunteers. Executive Director of the Brodhead Watershed Association is Theresa Merli.

The mission of the Brodhead Watershed Association is to protect the environment and water resources within the water shed. Strategies to achieve that mission include the education to enhance public understanding of water issues, data collection, community activism and legislative review. You can visit them online at www.brodheadwatershed.org.

Tom and Christine Wilkins, while always being supporters of the Pocono watershed, wanted to become more active in the Association after the Association was brought to their attention by Anne Fetherman, who along with her husband, Red Fetherman, are huge supporters of the BWA. Said Tom Wilkins, "When Mrs. Fetherman asked us to join, I told her Christine and I would be honored to become members. You have to appreciate that I fish the Cherry Valley stream on the Fetherman's tree farm and just couldn't say no to an opportunity like this; just like you never say no when the Fetherman Family invites you to fish the stream!"

In the spring of 2012, Theresa Merli was hired as Executive Director. Merli's responsibilities are to expand BWAs range of programs and educational activities. Merli, who served on the Board of the BWA for 10 years, is also a former Monroe County Commissioner, has served as a Paradise Township Supervisor and auditor, is a member of the League of Women Voters and she served as Secretary for 3 years. Said Merli, "I saw this as the opportunity of a lifetime. I cannot adequately express how excited I am to be in a position to fully devote my time and efforts to supporting the work of the Brodhead Watershed Association." Merli further said, "I intend to insure that the existing community asset of the high-quality water resources of the Brodhead watershed will remain healthy for future generations. I plan to do this through stepped-up community outreach, encouraging the participation of ALL residents and visitors and in the protection of an asset we can all treasure--clean, plentiful water resources."

You can reach the Brodhead Watershed Association at P.O. Box 339, Henryville, PA 18332, by phone at (570) 839-1120 or email them at brodheadwatershed@gmail.com.
